Bobby Dixon

Bobby Dixon, longtime owner of Dixon Service Center on Gordon Street in Blackshear, is remembered this week for his service to his customers.

Dixon, 82, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, at his home.

Dixon owned the service center for over 40 years, providing top notch service to his customers. Dixon offered a full-service station including pumping gas for customers, washing wind shields and other maintenance checks — long after most gas stations had become self-serve.

With an affable, easy going manner, Dixon treated his customers as friends and is remembered for dispensing bubble gum and fireball candy to youngsters who visited the station with their parents.

Dixon enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting in his spare time. He was an avid hunter and had been very active with the Cow Bone Hunting Club. He also enjoyed hosting cookouts for family and friends.

A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
