A Blackshear woman was struck and killed Sunday night when she stepped in front of a train between the Main Street and Grady Street crossings just west of downtown.

Jenni Ruth Darling, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 8:30 p.m. accident, according to Blackshear Police Chief Chris Wright.

Darling was struck by a westbound CSX locomotive hauling containers.

Coroner William Wilson said Darling’s body has been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

The incident is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol and no report was available Monday. Trooper First Class Patrick Orr is in charge of the investigation. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team has been brought in to assist with the investigation. No additional details were available at press time.
