SOFTBALL / Lady Bears continue their streak
The Pierce County Lady Bears continued their amazing hot streak as their unbeaten mark reached 12 games.
The Lady Bears (14-2-4 overall, 7-1 region) posted two Region 2-AA victories last week to increase their winning streak to nine games.
A 4-4 tie against Vidalia in the opening game of the Diamond Days Round Robin tournament at Southeast Bulloch High School in Brooklet ended the winning streak. Two more wins followed in the four-team event to keep the unbeaten streak alive.
“This was some good competition going into the final regular season game against Jeff Davis,” said head coach Robbie Spires after the tournament. “We had an opportunity to see a variety of pitchers and to get practice in the international tie-breaker.
“Saturday was a long day because we played three consecutive games without a break. Vidalia pulled out and did not play its last game.
“Our hitting continued to be strong throughout the lineup. We played pretty good defensively with the exception of one series against Vidalia.”
